COCIR is boosting its presence in the groundbreaking field of telemedicine with the news today that major German engineering group Bosch is to join COCIR. For both industry and regulators, telemedicine is seen as an important step towards improving patient care and reducing the burden on health systems in the Member States. This area is a strategic priority for the European Commission’s DG Information Society (Infso).
In 2007, Bosch acquired the American firm Health Hero Network which develops and markets the Health Buddy® system for health improvement and works as an interface between patients at home and care providers, facilitating patient education and monitoring of chronic conditions. The system includes monitoring technologies, clinical information databases, Internet-enabled decision support tools, health management programmes and content development tools. Through increased communication, behaviour modification and prevention, the Health Buddy system improves quality of care.
Welcoming Bosch on board, COCIR Secretary General Nicole Denjoy, said “Not only does Bosch bring with it a long and respected history in European engineering, like COCIR it moves with the times and is now also in telemedicine. We are pleased to have such expertise as part of the COCIR family.”
*COCIR represents the radiology, electromedical and healthcare IT Industry in Europe.
